apropos the undying Tory terror of death duties - and, in more recent times, Labour being intimidated and pushed around by that terror - if the Tories hadn't sprung a new wave of paranoia about inheritance tax in early October 2007, Gordon Brown would probably have called and won an autumn election and that would have been the end of Cameron, and all that has followed, there and then. These things run deep in these people's core.
