Every Tuesday evening in the basement bar of The Tron, Hunter Square, Edinburgh, a group of musos put on Out of the Bedroom, an excellent open mic evening. As well as those who turn up to play their allotted three songs, there is a featured act, who can do a proper set.
Tonight it was Sparrahawk, an urban poet from Weeg. His songs deal with the underclass, the schemeys, their faces twisted by poverty and their dances to the sectarian samba. He’s a kind of Glaswegian Tom Waits with a gritty voice and a lot of dark humour and pain.
Check out his Buckfast Bill and Feral Children.
