At the Cellar Bar in Chambers Street where I played a few number on their enormous Yamaha grand piano, the action of which is twice as heavy as my tacky Yamaha keys. I followed a lad called Duncan Drever, who played some songs pretty well. His last song he said was really filthy. He played it, and he was right, it’s the filthiest song I’ve ever heard, and with a touch of poetry as well.
There were four old whores from Baltimore
Drinking beer and wine.
The topic of conversation was
"Mine is bigger than thine.'
. . .The third old whore from Baltimore said,
"Mine's as big as the sea.
The ships sail in, the ships sail out,
And leave their rigging free."
Afterwards I talked to him and he said that he should have said he hadn’t written it. “You’re far too young to have written that.” It’s a song that would be sung by a bunch of sailors far out to sea.
