I have been reading some books tracing the history of the bicycle. All have mentioned this stained glass window from the St Giles Church in Stoke Poges (1642).
I would guess it's a stylised chariot rather than a velocipede. Naturally all sorts of practicalities arise at the thought of riding it - early bicycles were heavy, but not that heavy; that looks like it's made of stone, so what must that be like to sit on naked; it's bad enough taking one hand off the handle-bars to ring a bell, let alone two for blowing a trumpet.
